I first saw Mike at a mutual friends wedding in June of 2005 (I think). He was their best man and I could not stop looking at him. There was something about him that kept drawing my attention…could have been his dimples. I was too shy to ask the bride who he was and if he was single, so I just looked from a distance. I would try to “conveniently” be standing next to him hoping to get introduced somehow. I don’t think I was that successful, because although I remember meeting each other, he does not. After the wedding, I was surprised and excited to see him walk into Starbucks, where I worked. I tried my best to make small talk with him, but the best lines I could come up with were, “hey, you were the best man from Zack and Christen’s wedding right? I remember seeing you there!” Every time he came in, I think I said the same exact thing… I’m obviously not that creative! Each time he came in I tried to get his name, but I was too embarrassed to ask him and of course, if it was written on his cup, I didn’t remember it. One day, as I was walking into Starbucks to start my shift, I walked passed him and some of his friends who were talking about going to go the movies to XMen. They jokingly invited me to go, knowing I could not go because I was starting work. Soon enough everyone left, everyone but Mike. He ordered a drink and as I handed it to him I told him how I was an Xmen fan and I was jealous I could not go. He said when they ended up going, he would invite me to go. I handed him his drink and rolled my eyes at his remark because I never thought he would remember that. About a month later, I got a call from Christen, saying her and a bunch of people were going to see Xmen and asked if I would like to go. I said I would love to go, and I asked who was going. She named a bunch of people I didn’t know and then said, “…and Mike, he would love it if you came”. I didn’t know his name yet, so I just hoped this “Mike” guy was the cute dimple boy I liked to flirt with at Starbucks. Sure enough, he was there, and I found out his name was Mike. From there we began to hang out in groups, which soon trickled down to double dates, and then finally, exclusive dates. It wasn’t long before I realized what an amazing man he was. I fell in love with this boy and knew he was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. |
